Clémence Pas-Encore – Original watercolor & ink on paper

She stands by the lamppost with her handbag, hair in the wind, waiting. Waiting for what? She doesn’t quite remember.

Clémence Pas-Encore has waited her whole life, with immense patience and an unmistakable grace. Maybe she’s waiting for a project she’ll start tomorrow. Maybe a letter she’ll write next week. Maybe the courage to face the hedges behind her — those that, out of politeness, do not dare to grow.

I painted her last winter, then put her away in a drawer with all the other Clémences. Today she comes out — ready to find a wall to live on, and someone to keep her company.

A small reminder, framed on a wall: waiting is lovely — but only up to a point.
